About Us

We are a community-based organization dedicated to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate world for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Guided by the voices, lived experiences, and leadership of self-advocates and parents, we advocate at the grassroots level to strengthen communities, empower families, and promote meaningful systems change. Our mission is to advance equity, expand opportunities, and eliminate disparities in access to services and supports. Through advocacy, education, leadership development, and community engagement, we strive to ensure that every individual is treated with dignity, has access to the resources they need, and is empowered to live a self-directed and meaningful life. Together, we are building stronger communities where all people can thrive, contribute, and belong.

Integradoras

  • ICC Community Integradoras are parents and self-advocates who, through their own lived experience navigating the disability system and extensive training, provide peer-to-peer guidance and advocacy to other families seeking services and supports in California.
  • Rooted in community trust and cultural humility, ICC Integradoras offer grassroots, relationship-based outreach to help families understand and access the benefits and services available to them through the State’s developmental disability system.

  • ICC Integradoras play a vital role in identifying and addressing disparities, systemic barriers, and language or cultural gaps that often prevent underserved individuals and families—especially from monolingual or immigrant communities—from obtaining the services they are rightfully entitled to.

  • ICC Integradoras don’t just guide families through the system—they stand beside them, helping to build equity, dignity, and empowerment from the ground up.

Our Approach

  • At ICC, we believe advocacy begins with trust, connection, and shared experience. Our approach is rooted in organic, community-driven outreach that reflects the cultural, linguistic, and lived realities of the families we support.
  • We address the cultural and language barriers that too often prevent families—especially those from Latino, monolingual, and immigrant communities—from accessing equitable services. But we go beyond navigation. We build relationships first, forming the foundation for authentic, lasting engagement.

  • We walk alongside individuals and their families, guiding them through the often overwhelming systems of service and support. We don’t just give answers—we build capacity, confidence, and community, empowering families to become advocates in their own right.

  • Through every conversation, meeting, and milestone, we emphasize empathy, validation, trust, and mutual respect. We see every advocacy journey not as a solo effort, but as a shared path, traveled together as a united community.

  • Our advocacy leads to not just access—but to meaningful, transformative outcomes that honor each individual’s dignity, voice, and potential.

Programs

Our programs target the multi-generational IDD home and are designed to engage, uplift, inform, and empower family members—particularly those from Latino, monolingual, and historically underserved communities.

  • ICC Community Cafecitos: Our Community Cafecitos are weekly virtual gatherings via ZOOM that bring together individuals with disabilities, family members, and Integradoras to share information, build community, and find solutions to real-life challenges. Our Cafecitos provide a safe space for learning, support, and collective action, offering regular access to updates, resources, and guest speakers across relevant systems of care.

  • ICC Self-Determination    Program (SDP): We provide comprehensive training and Independent Facilitator support around California’s Self-Determination Program, guiding families through the development of Person-Centered Plans (PCPs), Individual Budgets, and Spending Plans. ICC also offers a 3-day Independent Facilitator (IF) training for those seeking to guide others through this life-changing pathway to autonomy.

  • United & Ignited (U&I) Sibling Support Group: This group provides a safe, inclusive space for siblings of individuals with IDD to share their unique perspectives, build solidarity, and receive peer-based support as they navigate both advocacy and their own personal journeys.

  • Alianza de Hombres – Men’s Group: A culturally grounded space for fathers, brothers, and male stakeholders, Alianza de Hombres fosters connection, brotherhood, and empowerment through shared lived experience and meaningful dialogue.

  • LIDER (Leadership, Inclusion, Dignity, Equity, and Resilience): LIDER is our leadership development initiative for emerging family and community leaders, designed to build the skills and confidence needed to advocate effectively within local and statewide systems.

  • En Comunidad: A community outreach and education program that brings in-language, in-culture support to families across the state through workshops, special events, and partnerships with Regional Centers and community organizations.

  • ICC Micro-Enterprises: This initiative supports individuals with IDD and their families in developing small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures, offering tools, mentorship, and community promotion through our platforms.

  • ICC Vision – YouTube Channel: Our multimedia storytelling and education platform features community voices, training videos, advocacy stories, and informational series that celebrate our culture, resilience, and progress.

United We Stand

“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.”

~ Cesar Chavez
